Super Bowl Weekend

Monday, February 4th, 2008

Had a nice relaxing weekend. Friday night we finally watched The Simpson’s Movie, which was good, but not best evar, which is about what I expected. Saturday we were thinking of going to the Japanese Tea Gardens in the park, but given the crappy weather, we decided to check out the de Young museum instead. For dinner we had Little Star, which was delicious as always, and watched Knocked Up, which I enjoyed quite a bit. It was especially novel because I got it on pay-per-view, which, at $4.99 was a bit more expensive than a normal DVD rental, but definitely beat going to the video store in the pouring rain.

On Sunday I played a lot of Hotel Dusk, which is pretty fun, but I think relies a little too much on the crappy adventure game mechanic of being able to pick up/do/see/talk to certain things only after hitting some arbitrary trigger. I also watched some of the Super Bowl, but equal amounts of the Puppy Bowl. I’ll let you decide which I liked more.

For dinner Sunday night, we made corn and squash soup (much better than it sounds) and awesome biscuits. Mmmm…so buttery…

Go New Mexicans

Monday, February 5th, 2007

Day 5 of veggie-fest 2007, and feelin’ fine. I have to give mad props to my friends to being extremely accommodating of my random, sudden, and temporary vegetarianism. They even ordered a veggie pizza for me during the Super Bowl. There was a slight hiccup during the party when Crystal arrived with a cheese ball and crackers.

[Sha Sha scoops some cheese ball onto a cracker and eats it]
Sha Sha: What’s in this?
Crystal: I think cream cheese, green onion, and these little dried meats…OHNO!

But it was all good; I think a minimal amount of meat was consumed. I did, however, realize yesterday that Chinese New Years is on Feb. 18. Since I have to eat fish on New Years Eve, I may have to break the meat-fast then, as well.

Had a pretty good weekend. Friday night went to Rhythms (which I just discovered is not the same as Mela) with Amanda, Jay, and Mandeep, which was fun, though a little a capella-heavy. Saturday had a couple birthday parties to go to. Sunday, Yar and I sight-read some Haydn sonatas, and I didn’t suck quite as much as I thought I would, for not having played in 5 years or so. Yay me. Sunday afternoon was Peter’s Super Bowl party. I rooted for the Bears after Peter told me that Brian Urlacher played for UNM, but alas, it was not to be.

Enzo is at Veterinary Medical Specialists for the day getting a slew of tests. They’re going to do an ultrasound, and re-do his blood and urine labwork. Hopefully I’ll have some more answers soon.

Edit:

Can I go home now?

Go Seahawks

Thursday, February 9th, 2006

Had a really good weekend. Saturday night I hung out at Your Place and Albatross with Amanda and some of her friends. I was rocking Taboo towards the end, but that’s probably because almost everyone else was drunk.

Sunday afternoon Peter hosted a Super Bowl party in lieu of normal Sunday sports. Amanda made guacamole, which I discovered will not turn brown if you leave the pits in. Amazing. While watching the game, I learned that one of the Seahawks players played for UNM, so I rooted for the Seahawks, sadly. The commercials were ranged from stupid (Escalade) to mildly funny (FedEx), to just plain disturbing (H3). After that Hummer commercial, we tried to figure out what else was the result of an unholy union between a monster and a robot. After that, I watched my very first episode of Grey’s Anatomy, which was quite melodramatic, and starred a very tiny Christina Ricci. She was so tiny, we all thought she was her own younger sister. What an interesting skill.

Work this week has been pretty busy. Fortunately, after my coworker Brian helped me last Friday, it morphed from totally overwhelming to just solid work. It even looks like I won’t have to work on the weekend, which is always good news.

Finally, Yar booked our tickets to Australia! Woo!

The Return

Monday, February 7th, 2005

I’m back. Just survived my first (mini) crunch at work. 13 straight days of work, many 12+ hours days, and I’m still alive. I actually didn’t mind it so much first, because it was the first one I’d ever had to go through, and second, because I knew there was a definite end to it. Not that it was kittens and sunshine, but it was tolerable.

Went to Ryan’s yesterday for a Superbowl party. Hung out with Don, Katie, Patti, and Laurie, the OG college roommate. Unfortunately, I had pretty much zero loyalty towards either team, so it wasn’t as exciting as it could have been. I sort of wanted to root for the Eagles, they being the underdogs, but I couldn’t really because 1) I think Terrell Owens is an ass, and 2) they didn’t really play all that well. And besides the sleep-inducing first quarter, the Patriots played pretty well. My personal favorite was Tedy Bruschi, and no, not because he looks like DJ from The OC. Okay, not just because of that. You gotta admit that the clip of him playing with his kids on the field before the game was gosh darn adorable. Other than that, the game was kinda mediocre, in my opinion, including the boring-as-all-get-out commercials. However I did discover what has to be the worst selling jersey in all the NFL.

After the game, I was feeling depressed and out of shape, so I headed to the gym at work and did 2 hours of cardio (1 hour biking, 1 hour elliptical.) My chiropractor thinks I’m starting to psych myself out about my knee, so I’m supposed to think positive thoughts.

Send me positive thoughts, dammit.
