Great Urban Fun

Monday, May 18th, 2009

Last Saturday I participated in the Great Urban Race in San Francisco, which is basically a scavenger hunt. When you start, you get a list of 12 clues, most of which will lead you to a particular location in the city. When you get there, sometimes you have to take a picture, do something, or get something. For example, one of the challenges was to do a mini boot-camp at a fitness club, another was to take a picture of yourself shaking a real dog’s paw, and another was to pick up a fortune cookie from the city’s first fortune cookie factory. I teamed up with Matt for race, but we worked with Babs, Justin, Mike, Kim, Sanders, and Joe, which I thought made it more fun. Everyone agreed that the puzzles were too easy, so the limiting factor was really how hardcore you decided to be (i.e. how much you ran), and how well you navigated the public transportation system. Overall, I had fun, but I probably wouldn’t do it again. I would, however, like to add a special shout-out to Kim for her pigtail-styling skillz: check it out.

The weekend was also full of other fun times: Friday night I finally saw Star Trek, which I really enjoyed. Saturday night was all you can eat Korean bbq for Cheryl’s birthday (Happy Birthday, Cheryl!). Sunday was a brunch for Abby’s law school graduation, and a birthday dinner for Buddy (Happy Birthday, Buddy!) at New Eritriea. Yum.
