Moved!

Monday, March 9th, 2009

The move this weekend went surprisingly well. Delancey Street Movers as usual were super nice and fast, and everything was in the new place after about 3 1/2 hours. I also had the most painless Comcast installation I’ve ever had: the guy was on time, he was nice, and he got the cable working in just a few minutes! Amazing.

The new place is awesome, and much nicer than the old one. The only minus is that I get no cell service inside. :( Also, our land line was supposed to be turned on this weekend, but it doesn’t appear to work yet. So…basically I’m not particularly contactable when I’m at home. Hopefully one or more of these situations will be resolved soon.

Movin’ on up

Saturday, February 21st, 2009

…to…Eureka Valley? Signed a lease for a new apartment last night. It’s smaller, but MUCH nicer than the current apartment, and for everyone who’s asked, yes, Virginia, there will be a housewarming party. And you’re all invited! Except you. No, to the left. Yeah, you. Sorry.

To prep for the move, there has been an explosion of cleaning in the house, and I briefly (okay, it wasn’t very brief) panicked when I found a HUGE spider in my file box that I thought might be a black widow. I managed to catch it in one of Sha Sha Chu’s patented Magical Spider Catchers (i.e. a plastic salsa container), and after some googling, found out it was a triangulate cobweb spider, or ‘false widow’. After snapping a few pics of it, we released it into the backyard, probably to have it return tomorrow and lay thousands of eggs in my eyeballs.

Busy Weekend #2

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

Another busy weekend, as has been the norm recently. I took Friday off of work so that I could pick up Enzo from the vet that afternoon, and that evening I went up to Berkeley for Sophia and Forrest’s wedding. Sophia was really nice and said that I could take pictures at the wedding (i.e. move around during the ceremony and such), but I was a little self-conscious of the loud clack my heels made on the brick, so I didn’t actually end up moving around much. I think I got a few pretty good shots, though I haven’t actually had time to load them onto my computer to see. The ceremony and reception were at the Brazil Building at Tilden Park, and it was a lot of fun.

Saturday was X-Treme Packing, where Amanda and I attempted to fit all of my worldly possessions into small file boxes purchased from Office Depot. It actually ended up going pretty well, and I was ready to go at 9am on Sunday morning. I used the Delancey Street Movers, and they were just as good as everyone said they were. They were friendly, fast, careful, and got the job done for way under their estimate. Plus, there’s the warm fuzzy Karma bonus of helping out a good cause. Amanda took Enzo to the park while the movers emptied out my Mountain View place, and while we were up in SF unpacking, Amanda started cleaning (with Enzo to help, of course.) We finished in the early afternoon, and I said goodbye to my landlord, and turned in the keys.

We’ve done a bit of unpacking, but mostly the apartment still looks like an Office Depot box bomb exploded in it. The cable guy came yesterday (I yelled at the poor customer service lady for the guy missing his appointment by an hour, so I got a $20 credit), so at least I’m not going to miss So You Think You Can Dance. This is very important, you must realize.

So far, SF living is great. We’re all adjusting to walking Enzo in a city, and figuring out street sweeping days is always a test of patience, but I’m having lots of fun!

The apartment is a disaster, but I now officially have a new zip code. Yay!

This Just In

Wednesday, November 24th, 2004

Well consarnit, my posting has been rather lackluster lately. Maybe it’s because my life is painfully boring. Or maybe it is.

Major accomplishments of the past few days:

1) Saw National Treasure with Matt. I thought it was pretty good. Definitely kept me entertained. Not as bad as the reviews would suggest.

2) Finished unpacking. Holy crap. My room is the cleanest it will ever be, so if y’all want to see some amazing clean-ness (at least for me), stop on by before Hurricane Sha hits full force.

3) Fixed the toilet. Mariel says this means I could have been an ME major. I think this means I could have been a plumber.

4) Picked up the new U2 album. I think it needs a few more listens before I can form an opinion. But it’s U2, how can you go wrong? Oh, except Pop.

5) Played with a coworker’s Nintendo DS. It’s pretty darn cool… I may just have to add it to my collection o’ handhelds.

6) 14 miles.

7) Had a dream last night that I was singing onstage with Ozomatli. In Spanish. A sign that I’ve been listening to their albums too much? Perhaps. “Cada dia yo veo la destruccion…”

Okay, so maybe “Major” was a bit too strong of a word.

We’re having some peeps over for Thanksgiving, so this should mean lots of cooking and lots of (hopefully) good food.

P.S. You can buy a defibrillator on Amazon. Isn’t the internet wonderful?

I’m Leaving on U-Haul

Friday, August 15th, 2003

We’re moving into our new apartment tomorrow, so I’ll be spending the rest of tonight packing up all of my earthly belongings. I’ll be unplugging my computer tonight won’t have an internet connection this weekend (gasp!) but I’ll still have my cell phone, so give me a call if you need to get in touch with me. When I go back to work on Monday I’ll be able to check e-mail again.

Apartment

Monday, July 14th, 2003

Mariel and I had spent the past couple weeks trying to find an apartment in the area. We had been looking on Rent.com, and we’d found some pretty nice places, but then our friend Paul told us that he had a vacancy next door to him. It was in Redwood City (north of Stanford, for all you non-Bay Area folks,) and was a ginormous 1200 square feet, 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom place. We went to see it and we really liked it, so we turned in our applications last week. Later that day, the realtor for the apartment, Joan, called us and told us that a woman had offered to not only move in immediately (we’re not moving until mid-August,) but also pay the first year’s rent up front. Of course we couldn’t do this, so we had to give up the place.

In the meantime, we found a nice apartment in Mountain View (south of Stanford) and decided to apply for that place. Of course, the day after we put down our security deposit, Joan calls us and tells us that it turns out that the woman who had offered to pay the first year’s rent had several bankruptcies, so that if we still wanted the place, it was ours. This put us in a brief dilemma, but we eventually stuck with the apartment in Mountain View, mostly because it was $150 dollars/month cheaper.

I’m satisfied with our decision, if not only for the fact that we are within walking distance of downtown Mountain View, home to many a cheap Asian restauarant. Mmm… Pho at 2 a.m…. Just call me fatty.
