The Numbers

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

Here are the vote totals for the 12 state propositions, as well as the presidential race:

1A: 9,711,014
2: 9,891,941
3: 9,673,822
4: 9,894,748
5: 9,730,348
6: 9,485,622
7: 9,703,301
8: 10,246,434
9: 9,516,513
10: 9,629,674
11: 9,211,449
12: 9,428,393
President: 10,184,513 (97% reporting)

If Prop 8 was defeated, I would find these numbers heartening, but as it stands, they just depress me.

My parents are the coolest

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

My mom told me last night that she and my dad are volunteering for the Obama campaign. They are starting with voter registration drives, and later will be moving onto canvasing the neighborhood, encouraging registered Democrats to turn out to the polls on November 4th.

Go Mom and Dad!

Rock the California Primary Vote!

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

Honestly, I don’t understand why this election has the word “primary” in it. It just confuses me.

In case all you California folks didn’t hear, today is yet another election day, so get out there and do your civic duty. Also, save rent control — vote no on 98!

Rock the…special congressional election?

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

As I was walking Enzo this morning, I noticed several “Polling Place Here!” signs around the neighborhood, and remembered that today was the special election to find a replacement for Tom Lantos. I wasn’t really going to vote, seeing as I had completely forgotten, but I decided to do a quick check online to make sure nothing else was on the ballot. What convinced me to finally vote was this quote by one of the Republican candidates, Greg Conlon, about the special election: “…I think I could steal it with a low (voter) turnout next Tuesday.”

At least he’s honest.

Super Tuesday!

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

Need I remind you all? It’s the first time in a bajillion years that the California primary actually carries some weight, so get out there and vote!

Hey, I’m home sick today, and even I’m going out to vote.

If nothing else, if you are a San Francisco resident, please, please vote against the global peace center. Please.

Rock the (Local) Vote!

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

As many of you don’t know, today there are local elections for many counties in the area here. If you’d like to see what’s up for vote in your county, check here. I know that it’s not a big election day, but remember that today’s local school board member can be tomorrow’s President. (Okay, not literally tomorrow, but work with me, people.)

In a related note, I’ve never felt so ostracized for exercising my civic duty. The most common reaction I’ve gotten today from people seeing my “I Voted” sticker has been, “What the hell did you vote for?” The other reaction has been, “Yeah, I knew it was an election, but I don’t really care.” Sweet Jeebus.

Go Democrats!

Woo!

In an unrelated note, I’ve heard it is a bad idea to eat nothing but salad and popcorn for dinner. Just a rumor.
