CONGRATULATIONS, CLIFF AND ANDY!

This weekend I headed down to LA for Cliff and Andy's wedding. It was great, but it was a bit of a harrowing adventure getting there. I left work at 4:30 and headed up to SF to gather up Enzo and our belongings. Then I picked up Abby in downtown SF, where she took over driving so I could sit in the back of the car with Enzo. After braving some crappy traffic to the East Bay, we picked up Amanda and were off.

About 2 hours into the drive, while we were on I-5, a light on Amanda's dashboard lit up, indicating low tire pressure. We decided to pull off at the next stop because she'd been having some tire pressure issues, and I pulled out the pressure gauge and started checking the tires. When I got to the front passenger tire, it kept reading 12 psi, which I knew couldn't be right, so I fiddled with the gauge some more. Amanda came over and asked how it was going. When I told her that the gauge was messed up and reading 12 psi, she said "Um, that's because the tire is flat."

Yay powers of observation.

Abby headed into the gas station where she learned first that we were in Gustine, California, and second, that the woman at the counter knew a guy named Pete who fixed tires and might still be working. So we called up Pete, and thankfully he answered, and said he'd be on his way. Shortly thereafter, Pete showed up with his wife and his cute pitbull Satchmo to fix our tire. After about an hour and a half, the tire was patched and we were on our way. We ended up arriving at about 2:30am, which isn't *that* bad, all things considered.

Saturday we went to visit David at Cal Tech, which had a really nice campus full of cute turtles, so that was pretty much a win.

That evening was the wedding, which was really fun and very sweet. I especially liked seeing Cliff's grandpa dancing with his wife towards the end of the night. It was another wedding where everyone was just so happy to be there, so I'm really glad I was able to be a part of it. I'm getting behind on processing my pics, so work allowing, I'd like to get some of that done this week.

I got back to SF at about 9:30pm on Sunday, and in a move of supreme illogic..ity, I promptly drove down to Mountain View to catch the tail end of Sprog's birthday party. I had a lot of fun and I'm glad I did it, but boy am I tired today. On the plus side, I did learn that we all agree that Enzo would make a terrible pizza topping.

CLOSE CALL

I'm going to be driving down to LA tonight for Cliff and Andy's wedding, so I need to bust out of work early, and in order to make up the time, I planned on coming in to work early. The only way I can reliably make myself leave the city early is by parking my car in a street sweeping zone. My street has 7am street sweeping on Tuesdays and Fridays, so I parked my car right in front of the apartment last night.

This morning I took Enzo on his morning walk at 6:50am, and got back to my apartment at exactly 7:00, and it was all clear. I took a few minutes to put Enzo in the back and gather up my stuff, and when I stepped outside at 7:03, a...what's the male equivalent of a Meter Maid? Parking Ticket Butler? Anyway, the DPT guy was there in his little golf cart thing, ready to give me a ticket. Fortunately, he noticed me, and I told him I was just on my way out, so he moved on to the next unfortunate soul. Whew.

DENIED

I got denied from donating blood today for the second time for having low iron. :( Maybe I should start eating metal shavings.

On the plus side, I still got my free Dead Space t-shirt.

CONGRATULATIONS, JOANNE AND ELLIE!
Congratulations, Joanne and Ellie!
Uploaded to Flickr on 20th July, 2008.

Joanne and Ellie got married last weekend, and I had the privilege of not only attending, but photographing their wedding. It was the first gay wedding I've been to, and it was fantastic; it was an important step not only it these two women's lives, but for all Californians. Hopefully I was able to capture the joy between these two people and their friends and family.

This was at the civil ceremony in Oakland, which I decided to attend at the last minute. I'm glad I did.

NOT MY BEST NIGHT

1) Left work at close to 11:30pm after working for 5 hours on someone else's bug, and deciding it was more of a feature request.

2) Discovered the 101N on-ramp at Ralston was closed.

3) Took 101S so I could get off at Holly, and get onto 101N there.

4) Did a U-turn to get to the freeway entrance.

5) Discovered Holly on-ramp was closed as well.

6) Saw flashing lights in my rearview mirror.

7) Was informed by nice police officer that I had made an illegal U-turn.

8) Was let off with a warning.

9) Breathed a sigh of relief.

10) Took El Camino to Hillsdale to finally get on 101N.

11) Got home around 12:15am.

12) Ate chips and salsa for dinner.

13) Bed.

HAPPY 4TH!

How was your long weekend? I spent July 4th at Skywalker Ranch this year courtesy of Erik. Like I've been telling other people, it was the July 4th-iest July 4th I've ever had, complete with egg toss (I got egg on Erik's pants :( ), tug of war, and horse carriage rides. Unfortunately, no free lightsabers and stormtroopers, but I had fun.

Saturday morning we went to the Ferry Building Farmer's Market for the first time, and it was cool, but ungodly expensive. I'm not sure I've ever spent so much and walked out with so little. Afterwards it was lunch at Taylor's Refresher, then back home to meet up with a friend from high school and his fiance. I'll be heading down to L.A. in a couple weeks for their wedding, which I'm super excited about.

Sunday morning Buddy came up to the city to do an 8-mile run in Golden Gate Park. It went pretty well, and it certainly reminded me how nice it is to be able to run through the park. I think we kept just over a 10 minute/mile pace, which I was pretty proud of, especially considering most of the latter half of the run I mapped out was uphill. Afterwards, we headed to a friend's barbecue, where we participated in the only appropriate activity after a long run: gorging ourselves on various meats. Yum.

I also beat Professor Layton last week. I ended up finding 109/120 puzzles, which I thought was pretty good. I may go back sometime and try to find the remaining 11, just to see what happens, but more likely I'll just look them up on the intertubes. I highly recommend the game to anyone who's a puzzle fan; besides being a nice collection of puzzles, it has a cute story and art style.

Finally, crazy robot dancing:

FUNTASTIC

I had a great weekend. Friday night we went to see Robert Plant and Alison Krauss play at the Green Theater in Berkeley. I was more there to see Alison Krauss, but I thought it was a great show. They played a lot of songs from their album, but they also did bluegrass-y covers of Led Zeppelin songs that actually worked really well. Despite being 924 (okay, 60) years old, Robert Plant definitely can still sing, which was impressive. Alison Krauss was scary good, as always.

Otherwise, the city presented many fun activities over the weekend where I also was able to use the new camera and lens, so hopefully I'll have some pics up soon.

Finally, Sunday night we took a friend to dinner at Greens, which was excellent. Who know a meat-less meal could be so good??
