RODRIGO Y GABRIELA

Last night I went to see Rodrigo and Gabriela play at The Fillmore (bringing my Fillmore poster collection up to 6.) I had only heard one song of theirs before going to the concert, but I have a couple friends who absolutely love them, so I decided to check them out. To my uninitiated ear, a lot of their songs sounded the same, but there's no denying their talent. I especially liked their acoustic Metallica covers, and Gabriela's crazy guitar-as-percussion-instrument playing. Despite the frequent calls of "RODRIIIGOOOOOOOOOO!!!!" and "TE QUIERO GABRIEEELLLAAAAAAA!!!!!" from the audience, I had a great time.

I WORK AT THE WRONG COMPANY

"At a town-hall meeting with employees Thursday, Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced that all full-time Apple employees will receive a free 8GB iPhone, while part-time employees who have been with the company for more than a year will also receive a free iPhone."

TINY FEETS
Tiny feets
Uploaded to Flickr on 18th June, 2007.

I met my new baby niece for the first time this weekend, and she is CUTE! She's very smiley (except when she's crying) and she has really chubby legs, leading me to give her the nickname "Michelin Man". Everyone says she looks like me, which I'll take as a huge compliment.

I took a red-eye Thursday night and arrived bright and early Friday morning. I spent the day with my sister-in-law and practiced my Shaparazzi skills on the two kids. That night my sister and her boyfriend came over for a delicious (and buttery) salmon dinner that my sister-in-law cooked. My parents also arrived to say hello and drop off some chicken enchiladas an carne adovada burritos from Frontier. YUM.

Saturday morning we had a nutritious breakfast of chicken enchiladas and then we spent a really good day together as a happy family. We had dinner at Fresh, where I had some really yummy halibut. Yummy because it didn't taste at all like fish.

Sunday my sister and my dad and I went to the Museum of the City of New York where we saw a cool exhibition of the photographs of Eugene de Salignac. Afterwards we had a quick lunch and met up again to spend the afternoon together. For Father's Day dinner, we all went to EN Japanese Brasserie, which was delicious. We had yummy soba noodles, homemade tofu, duck, and sashimi, to name a few. I was REALLY full afterwards.

Sunday night I stayed at my brother's instead of my sister's, and Bug declared that she wanted to sleep with me on the couch instead of her bed. I helped her change into her PJs and brush her teeth, and we both laid down on the couch, feet to feet. After a minute or so, I heard her talking to herself and shifting around, so I sat up and asked her what she was doing. "Go back to sleep," she told me. So I laid back down and closed my eyes. A few minutes after that, I felt her crawl towards me, so I opened my eyes to see her face really close to mine. "I'm not tired!" she declared, then proceeded to climb off the couch and start running around the apartment. She had me call The Backyardigans on her play cellphone a few times before she eventually ran upstairs to sleep with her mom and dad. Three-year-olds are so cute!

I only had a half day on Monday, so I spent it with PP and the kids, which included visiting a court house (Bug was disappointed it wasn't voting day) and eating a huge soft serve ice cream cone.

It was a really short trip, and I'm disappointed I didn't get to spend more time with everyone. But I'll be back again in December!

THE ANTI-TODO LIST

I think it's fair to say that most people (myself included) make todo lists of things they would like to accomplish in their lives. However, I would like to make an Anti-Todo List, or things that I hope never to do in my life.

1) Own a car with wood paneling in the interior
2) Purchase a dog from a breeder
3) Stop taking pictures
4) Raise a bratty child
5) Eat sweetbread

More to come, probably.

A DILEMMA

On the evening of June 28th, I have been offered the opportunity to see one of two shows.

The regional finals of The US Air Guitar Championships at The Independent:

I am truly torn. Real guitars or air guitars? Thoughts?

ANOTHER SUNDAY

...another work day.

We are in the home stretch of our game, and this is the second Sunday in a row I'm at work. Things are starting to come together, but we have a ton of work left. I'm looking forward to getting this game out the door, as it will be my first shipped game as a gameplay engineer. Woo!

Despite the weekend work days, the past couple of weeks have been good. I went to Muir Beach a couple of weeks ago for a small hike. The next day I went over to Erik's for a Memorial Day BBQ, which was deliciously meaty. I've started to watch So You Think You Can Dance, which has kept me sufficiently entertained.

Climbing recently has been okay, but not spectacular. I think my "challenging" level is still around 10c/10d, with my "reach" level at 11a, and my "insanely out of reach" level at 11b.

In other exercise-y news, Emily, Buddy and I signed up for the first half of the San Francisco Marathon. (Don't worry Mom and Dad, my asthma is doing much better now.) Buddy and I went on a 5-mile run yesterday, which was (at least for me) disappointingly difficult. In our defense, it was pretty dang hot yesterday. But I am definitely need to get going with my training if I want to do this half and still feel good at the end of it.

MILOU
Milou
Uploaded to Flickr on 3rd June, 2007.

Milou belongs to one of my neighbors in my apartment complex. I hadn't seen him in a while, and today when I saw him, he only had one eye! I'm not sure what happened, but his left eye was stitched shut, and he also had some shaved patches on his legs, probably for IVs and such. Poor kitty.

One thing that has always amazed me is how adaptable animals are. The hardest thing about bringing a pet to the vet is that you can't communicate to them that you're trying to help them ("No, Enzo, the guy putting a tube up your butt is trying to help you!"). All they know is that they're surrounded by strangers poking and prodding them, and when they wake up, they have no eye, or no leg, and yet, given time, they're good as new.
