SERENITY NOW
5 points to the first person to tell me where that is from.
Anyway, saw Serenity last Friday, a surprise pick from our very own May Ling (who watched a lot of the fight scenes with her eyes half covered). I liked it quite a lot (perhaps going in with somewhat low expectations helped), and now I'm waiting for Beck to bring in the Firefly DVDs for me to borrow. The wait in line for the movie was basically Nerd-Con 2005, which of course means that I saw about a billion people I knew. Among others, I saw Paul, who slyly went and got married about a month ago. Congrats Paul!
Saturday I went over to Aaren's place to "session" with him and his friend. What this involved was hooking up three turntables and three mixers and taking turns scratching over a beat. Aaren is much better than either of us, but it was still fun and good practice. He also took us to Jake's Steaks, where I had a Philly cheesesteak "whiz with" style, meaning with Cheez Whiz and onions. It was really good, but I could feel years of my life slipping away with each bite. Saturday night Babs and I went over to May Ling and Florence's place to drink tea and play Mah Jongg. Our very own Joy Luck Club, I tell you.
Sunday morning Babs and I had a leisurely run on the Steven's Creek Trail, then had the usual ramen lunch. After some errands, I joined the usual crew for football and volleyball at the park. It was pretty exciting -- I don't suck quite so much at volleyball anymore! Woo! After dinner at The Boardwalk, I watched Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior which, despite its incomprehensible plot (or lack thereof), had some amazing fight scenes and stunts.
Monday night I went climbing again and actually got a monthly membership at Planet Granite since they are waiving their initiation fee. I've decided that another one of my minor life goals is to do be able to do at least one pull-up, so this should at least set me in the right direction.
Finally, this picture (click to enlarge) is one of the most wonderfully disgusting things I've ever seen. Read the full story here: Snake bursts after gobbling gator.

...insanity later
you are going to love Firefly. That is all
I saw Ong Bak and I was disappointed. I thought of my money and what I have spent. It was not a huge movie a what I have predicted. The scenes were not done well and just imitations of classic martial arts movies. I just thought of it as a waste of time.
