LEGO MY EGO

People who write online journals (or blogs, as the cool kids say,) are inherently egotistical. I'm including myself in this, mind you, so no scary comments, please. Isn't it odd that people will write down their innermost (or outermost) thoughts for the world to see, with the implicit assumption that there are people who actually care about what they are saying? I don't claim to be changing lives with what I write, and yet I do get a secret satisfaction when I know that people are actually reading this crap.

That said, please smack me upside my head if I ever start doing those "One word", "Question of the Day", or "Friday five" kinds of entries. Really if you have nothing to write about other than what brand of toilet paper you use, you're really just better off saying nothing at all.

P.S. I use Charmin.

I do some of those. OneWords are good writing "brain snapshots" and Questions of the Day force me to write and to "write" a stage in my life. They're certainly not the only thing in my blog, and I never have to "force" myself to do them.

I do them for me, and I don't care if anyone else reads them. Some people do, some people don't. In the end, I'm doing them for me - so I can one day flip back and ask myself "what was I thinking about… seventeen months ago?" or something.

If you don't like it, don't read 'em. Real easy right?

Hmm... well, as much as I really (really) don't want to turn this into a debate, if you are writing them for yourself, why put them in a public forum? Why not just keep a private journal? I'm not trying to be contentious -- I am genuinely curious.

I am not sure I will ever write on my blog what I feel, I reckon its a diluted version of a secret diary. As to being egotistical I am not quite sure. For me its a way of writing and if somebody reads it all the better. I have only just started so maybe I will get more egotisical as time goes by.

I use Scott - it's a bit rougher, but a roll lasts longer.
