Climbing for a Cure

March 14th, 2005

Yesterday I was at a Dim Sum restaurant with May Ling, Babs, and Buddy after we had gone running on the Stevens Creek Trail. I was still wearing my “Run Against Bush” shirt, and an older Chinese woman approached me and asked where she could get one. We started chatting and she told me that her son was leading an expedition to Mount Everest to raise awareness for breast cancer (his sister had died of a rare form of cancer.) She told me about his website, Climbing for a Cure, so I visited and read about their expedition. Wanting to help, I donated a bit of money, and also e-mailed the expedition leader to tell him about how I had met his mother that morning. I also told him how two of my aunts as well as Aunt Ruth had all battled breast cancer. He wrote me back and asked for their initials, and told me that he would put them on one of their summit flags. So once they make it to the top (which should be in the spring of this year) their initials will be at the top of Mount Everest! Neat!
