Also, I’d just like to say the verse of Blink-182′s “Feeling This” is some of the gosh darnit most annoying music ever known to human ears. The problem is, I really like the chorus, especially at the end of the song. So the question is, do I suffer through Tom DeLonge’s whiny rap stylings to be rewarded by the chorus, or do I just switch it off to spare my ears? Or, do I stop writing about this stupid subject? Hm, the choices…

Are You Happy Now?

As predicted, a pretty good weekend. Michelle Branch was great in concert; she actually sounds good live, unlike some other over-engineered teen pop stars, who shall remain nameless. She is ridiculously talented for a 20-year-old (or for an any-year-old, for that matter) and has reawakened my latent dreams of becoming a rock star. Hey, I think I must at least play guitar better than The Donnas. The opening act was Jim Boggia, whom I had never heard of before Friday, but he was actually really good, too. I was also glad to have been to my first show at the legendary Warfield theater. Despite being in a rather unseemly part of SF, it’s a great venue.

Saturday was not so wonderous, as we lost Big Game, as predicted. The saddest part was that we were leading for 75% of the game, but Cal really came back strong in the end. Thankfully, we did make that touchdown just as the clock ran out, since 28-16 isn’t quite as shameful as 28-10. After the game Cheryl’s parents took us out to dinner at “The” Shanghainese place, which was magically delicious.

Sunday was a little slower, mostly taken up by lunch and Enzo acting up at the dog park. Mariel and I went to Dave and Busters for a while, and won a cool 600 tickets. We hung on to them so we can get more the next time we go. I’m still holding out for that big screen TV…

I Have Bawls

Another week has come and gone. Monday through Thursday of this week I had mandatory C++ training, something all engineers at the studio have to go through. I came into the class with really low expectations but was pleasantly surprised — the teacher was really good and the material was pretty interesting. However, it was for 7 hours a day (3 in the morning, 4 in the afternoon,) which was brutal. I had a really hard time focusing the entire time. Of course, I don’t think I can focus on anything for 7 hours a day; I could be learning about how to create puppies that poop $20 bills, but I still would get sleepy. So in a valiant attempt to battle my C++ sleepiness, I decided to try the new energy drink Bawls. (Hee hee… “bawls”…) Boy did it taste bad, but it kept me awake, so I had it two days in a row. Plus it has a cool blue bottle.

Tonight I’m going to see Michelle Branch in SF, and tomorrow I’m going to Big Game, which we are sure to lose. Should be a fun weekend.

Movin’ On Up

Hello, my loyal reader(s). Many-a-exciting happening has…happened recently.

Okay, I’m a liar. The only remotely interesting that has happened in the past few days is that I’ve moved from my 2nd-floor cube in the Bond team area to a swanky window-side cube on the 4th floor. (Cue “Jefferson’s” theme song.) Now I’m sitting with the rest of the Central Technologies group, made up of people from around the studio. In the next couple years, we’ll be working on several EA titles, including the sooper-sekret title I talked about earlier, which I thought was cancelled but apparently wasn’t. Good times.

I certainly feel like the baby of the group, not only because of age, but also because I’ve shipped exactly zero games, while people like my teammate Bill Budge kind of sort of helped launch EA. But I feel like I can learn a lot, as long as I can keep the intimidation factor to a minimum.

Bathroom Twin

On our part of the floor at work, there is one set of bathrooms. Since they started handing out free bottles of water, I tend to visit them quite often. After a few weeks here, I noticed that maybe half of the time I’m in the bathroom, this other girl on our team is in there too. I don’t even know her name; I think she’s an artist. Anyway, this, in and of itself, is not all that amazing, considering we don’t actually have that many women on our team. But wait, there’s MORE. Almost all of the time I wear a red hooded sweatshirt when I’m at work because it’s always freezing. So does she. BUT, the other day, I decided to wear a BLUE hooded sweatshirt to work. My Bathroom Twin also wore a blue sweatshirt! Not hooded, granted, but still… And to top it off, today I wore a fleece sweater with a zipped neck. And what did I see when I went to the bathroom that day? BT wearing a black fleece sweater with a zipped neck!

Mariel thinks she’s stalking me. She says BT probably has a big pile of sweatshirts in her cube and when I go to the bathroom, she puts on a matching one. I’m beginning to think Mariel’s right…

So Mysterious

mysteryspot.gifIf you live in Northern California, chances are you’ve seen a few (or a million) of those yellow MYSTERY SPOT bumper stickers on the car ahead of you on the freeway. Apparently the MYSTERY SPOT is nothing more than a clever optical illusion, (something along the lines of this picture I took of Buddy.) But supernatural phenomena and gravitional oddities aside, I think the real mystery is why so many people would put such an ugly-ass bumper sticker on their car. Ponder THAT, Mr. Scientist.
