Woo and Hoo

September 4th, 2003

In what is surely the most exciting development of the past couple of weeks, I am currently sitting on the couch in our living room, writing this entry on Mariel’s laptop using our swanky new DSL home wireless network.

Ain’t technology grand?

You should make sure that you’re not handing out IP addresses to random strangers. When I first got my wireless router, I think half of Rains was on it and my internet got really slow and so I got really angry and killed the people who were using up my bandwidth. So, in summary, if you want people killed, just ask me.

How can I make sure people can’t use my router? In order to configure Mariel’s wireless PC card, I had to put in a specific SSID and a WEP key that was printed on the bottom of the router. There doesn’t seem to be any way to tell the router to only give out IPs to certain MAC addresses.

Maybe I should have gotten the wired modem, and then bought my own wireless router rather than using SBC’s funky router. Oh well. At least I’ll know who to call in case any one uses up my bandwidth.
