I Hate You

Monday, September 29th, 2003

As I was walking Enzo, a woman came out of her apartment and told me not to walk him near her apartment because there are lots of cats there and there are “a million” other places to walk him. (For those of you who have seen my place, you know that’s not really true.) If she had asked nicely, I would have said okay, but she said it in that “I’m pretending to be nice but I’m really big jerk” sort of way that put her immediately at the top of my my I Hate You list.

I wonder if I can train Enzo to crap on her doorstep…

Warm House

Monday, September 29th, 2003

Mariel and I had our housewarming party on Saturday. It was great to have everyone together again. Mariel and I spent all day preparing the food, only to have it disappear in about an hour. Who knew I had locusts for friends? We also had a surprise visit from Brady, which was good because we were all convinced he had died of SARS in China. We also had a rousing game of Taboo (my team lost). It was so rousing, in fact, that we had a security guard knock on our door to tell us to keep it down. Despite the good food and good friends, the star of the party was clearly Enzo. Even the people who said they don’t like dogs liked Enzo. He enjoyed a lot of attention, and had his own personal harem to pet him throughout the night. So thanks to everyone who came, and for those who didn’t, boy did you miss out! :D

Stupid People

Friday, September 26th, 2003

I got a comment the other day that said, among other things:

“Hey i just wanted to say that ben ziff is so the hottest guy on tv right now. For all of you who think he is jewish i hope you are wrong by far.

Now maybe I’m misinterpreting that statement, but I don’t think I am, so what in HOLY HELL is “For all of you who think he is jewish i hope you are wrong by far” supposed to mean??

Then she goes on to say:

“. . .listen up person who created this website, you need to chill out. If you don’t like him than thats the end of it. Why do you even have a website about him? your probably just jealous cauz he has all of us girls after him.”

Um, yeah, I wish I had Anti-Semitic girls after me, too.

*sigh* Some people really need to be banned from the internet. But for now, I shall be content with banning her IP. Great Googly Moogly.

My dog is a genius.

He now goes up the stairs, and he knows “watch me”, “sit”, and “down.”

Okay, so maybe I use the word “genius” loosely, but Jan pointed out that Enzo does at least have the Albert Einstein hair.

Things with Enzo are going well. I’m meeting with a dog walker today that will hopefully be able to walk him during the day so I don’t have to come home during my lunch hour. He also seems to be tolerating some dogs better, which is a good sign. This weekend I’m going to take him to a dog trainer to get him evaluated against a bunch of different kinds of dogs to see if we can figure out exactly what kind of dog he doesn’t like. After that, I’m going to try to enroll him in a group obedience class so that he can be socialized with the other dogs there. He’s a genius.

On a completely different note, isn’t it amazing how luxury car makers with all their fancy options and extras, always fail to install turning signals? Or so it would seem, since people in nice cars never feel the need to signal when they change lanes.

Breaking News

Thursday, September 18th, 2003

Important info for those of you who are local:

The new Ikea in East Palo Alto has a 20% student discount until the end of this month. Mariel and I of course didn’t find this out until after we had bought nearly all of our furniture, but I figure I can still spread the word. You just need to show the cashier your student ID.

Enzo

Monday, September 15th, 2003

This is Enzo. He’s my new dog. Mariel and I got him yesterday from the Pets In Need shelter in Redwood City. He’s suuuuuper cute. He’s generally well-behaved, except for a couple things (i.e. he barks at dogs smaller than him, he likes to mark things when other dogs are around, and he doesn’t like to go up the stairs to our apartment.) He seems to have some Chow Chow in him (from the purple tongue and his tail) and he’s also probably got some terrier in him. According to the shelter he is about 2 years old. I’m excited. Hopefully some of you will get to meet him soon.

Ass

Thursday, September 11th, 2003

A comment received today:

Ummmm how bout ur an ass…Chris Martin is one of the most romantic, talented and gorgeous singers I have heard YET…and obviously you are a fool if you feel the need to say assanine comments like…mmm “Chris martin lay off the crack”..yea niiiice ass…

*Sigh*. Again, I must insist that if you want to try to sound smart and insult me with big words like “asinine”, please at least have the courtesy to check your spelling. And also please take the time to type out words like “you’re”. If you have the time to search the web for “Chris Martin-Coldplay pictures,” you can spare the extra half-second for the extra 4 keystrokes.

But thank you for the compliment — I do have a niiiice ass.

Two Years

Two years later, and again I don’t really have anything to say. But every time I see pictures of Ground Zero, I realize just how lucky Arthur was.

GameCube

Tuesday, September 9th, 2003

All EA new hires get a $100 credit towards a new console system. Last summer I used it towards a PS2, and this year, I was holding out for the GameCube price to drop from $149 to $99. But the other day I read an article saying that was unlikely, so last night I gave in and decided to go ahead and buy one. I also got the new Zelda game free with it. I’ve decided not to open my GameCube until I finish unpacking all my boxes and cleaning up my room. This means I should be able to play it somewhere around August of 2008. I can’t wait.

Did you mean...Edit: This is what I found when searching for the webpage for Zelda: The Wind Waker.

Super Cool

Friday, September 5th, 2003

I was recently introduced to two Super Cool (TM) things on the web:

1) Zombie Infection Simulator – A tiny Java applet that simulates zombies taking over a city. BRAAAAAIIINNNS!!! Thanks to Andy and Jason for showing this to me.

2) Ping Pong – Who says you need millions of dollars to make Matrix-quality effects? Thanks to Becky for sending this to me.
