Avast ye Mateys!

Sunday, June 30th, 2002

I installed AOL Instant Messenger the other day, mostly so I could bother Lilly from within the safety of my own room, and everywhere on my computer I’m finding little shortcuts to “Free AOL and Unlimited Internet.” On my desktop, in my Start Menu, on the Links bar of IE, and in my Quicklaunch bar. I seem to keep discovering more and more every day. It’s like a treasure hunt with really crappy treasure.

On an unrelated note, I got the Louisiana quarter yesterday as change at “The” Taiwanese restaurant in Cupertino Village. On the one hand, I was pleased with myself for coming into possession of a shiny new 3/4″ metal graphic describing the Louisiana Purchase, but on the other hand, this only reminded me that I have not yet gotten my hands on an Ohio quarter. What ever am I going to do with the glaring hole in my Kid’s Statehood Quarters Collector’s Folder? WHAT, I say??? If any of the two or three of you who read this page has in your possession a shiny Ohio state quarter, I will give you a….quarter for mailing it to me. Or perhaps 62 cents to cover the 25 cents plus 37 (yes 37) cents for postage. It’s a can’t-be-beat deal. e-mail me.

My Name is Sha Sha, and I Have a Problem…

Monday, June 3rd, 2002

Yesterday I went on a CD buying spree. I can’t help myself. It’s a problem.

I got for myself:
The Eminem Show – Eminem
Grace – Jeff Buckley
Mystery White Boy – Jeff Buckley
beautifulgarbage – Garbage

For Mariel:
Come Away With Me – Norah Jones
Brushfire Fairytales – Jack Johnson

And for my Dad:
Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, and Dave Brubeck CDs from Ken Burns’ Jazz documentary.

So far I’ve listened to Come Away With Me, beautifulgarbage, Grace, and half of The Eminem Show. Come Away With Me has some really great songs, and Norah Jones has a great smokey voice. I think there could be more variety to the songs, though. They all sound like something you might hear in a dark, smoke-filled club. Which may have been what she was going for; who knows? Grace was pretty good upon first listen, and I think I’ll only like it more and more as I listen to it again. I must confess though, that I still prefer Rufus Wainwright’s version of Hallelujah. beautifulgarbage is really different from their first two albums, which could be a good thing or a bad thing. I think it will take a few more listens to get into it; their first 2 albums are some of my favorite albums, so it was kind of disappointing to not hear the same sorts of things in beautifulgarbage. But I do really like the song “Androgyny”. The Eminem Show is pretty satisfying; he still sounds like Eminem.

I love CDs. I hope they never go obsolete.
